2009/10 Seminar Program
The long term goals of the Worldwide University Network Nursing Research Seminar Series include 1) the creation and promotion of research opportunities for faculty and doctoral students at WUN institutions; and 2) the establishment of international learning and teaching opportunities for faculty and students. Nursing research is critical to improved patient outcomes across a continuum of care. Nurse researchers across the globe have established programs of science development that are clinically relevant, interdisciplinary, and growing in visibility. However, to date, there has been little opportunity for international collaboration or even in depth discussion of similarities and differences in challenges and opportunities. Unlike clinical medicine and basic sciences where international focused research conferences are the norm, international nursing research conferences tend to be broad in focus, utilize geographically diverse locations making it a challenge for researchers to attend, and often lacking in critical analysis of research methods applicable to varying populations. As a result, opportunities for collaboration including the testing of models of care have been limited due to lack of dialogue and critique. These ‘live’ sessions are viewed as a beginning effort to increase dialogue among nurse investigators. Nurse researchers practitioners and trainees are encouraged to participate via presentation and through questioning during the seminars.
