The University of Alberta marks its 2008 centenary through the ’08-’09 academic year as a time to celebrate the people and their collective accomplishments over the past century. What began as a small provincial, rural-focused school, is now an internationally recognized university that is a world-leader in diabetes research, nanotechnology, humanities computing, printmaking, artificial intelligence, family business research, carbohydrate chemistry, and circumpolar research.
Today, annual external research funding exceeds $490 million, there are more than 36,000 students in more than 200 undergraduate programs and 170 graduate programs. The university is home to more than 2,200 international students from more than 120 countries.
