This is a WUN collaboration to work on a new specification and demonstrator for an Intelligent Uninhabited Air Vehicle (IUAV). This is a multidisciplinary activity offering big challenges in micro engineering, microelectronics, micro-fabrication and rapid prototyping and manufacturing. Application areas include operation in extreme environments (climate and atmospheric data collection) to wider civilian operations. The IUAV project is of considerable interest to the WUN ACE initiative and this in turn has led to a dialogue with the needs of this research community. Proof of concept in extreme environments can open up further opportunities for application – a range of environmental and infrastructure surveillance operations where endurance, reliability and cost are key factors. Aerospace and related research features strongly in the WUN partnership.
