Research Mobility

WUN offers two programmes which support overseas research and career development:

Research Mobility Programme

The Research Mobility Programme funds a period of study overseas for postgraduates and faculty to establish and cultivate research links at an institutional and individual level between the partners in Europe, North America, South East Asia and Australia. It is also intended to encourage the personal and academic development of individuals early in their research careers.

The Programme continues to elicit high-quality applications and enthusiasm from faculty and graduate students with almost 400 awards being made across the WUN partnership since the programme began in 2002.

The experience of the university exchange organised through WUN fundamentally improved my understanding of academic research. I learnt a great deal and discovered how much potential exists for academic research in the light of still many uninvestigated avenues of enquiry. Cheryl Clay, University of Sheffield, visited Utrecht.

The Fulbright Programme

As part of a new initiative, the five UK member universities of WUN will waive the tuition fees of Fulbright scholars coming to their campus from one of their partner universities in the US under a new agreement with the Fulbright Commission. The UK institutions involved are; Bristol, Leeds, Sheffield, Southampton and York. The three US WUN partners universities are; Penn State, University of Washington, Seattle and UW-Madison.

The agreement will come into effect for the academic year 2008/09. Further details for applicants or others within WUN partner universities can be obtained from
