Multilingualism in the Middle Ages

Multilingualism in the Middle Ages is an interdisciplinary research programme, which includes seminars, workshops and public conferences.

Areas for study include the purposes and effects of ‘code switching’, the functional and territorial distribution of languages, multilingual writings and manuscripts, questions of mutual comprehensibility, and others.

The broad aims of the project are to:

  • further research into the cultural consequences and manifestations of multilingualism in the medieval west.
