Germanic Languages and Migration (GLaM)
Germanic Languages and Migration (GLaM): an international and interdisciplinary network
The rapid movement of people and information on an unprecedented scale has exerted increasing pressure on the model of the nation-state, together with the ideal of linguistically and culturally homogeneous societies. In this context, the study of the relations between language, migration and transnationalism has been recognized as a priority research area; however, the subjects are often so vast and the languages involved so varied that scholars would benefit from infrastructures enabling deeper levels of exchange.
By narrowing the scope to Germanic languages, this network serves as a platform for focused discussion among scholars working mainly in the fields of sociolinguistics and linguistic anthropology. We aim to cooperate with colleagues working in cognate areas, such as education, cultural studies, cultural geography and media studies, to launch cutting-edge international and interdisciplinary research projects and to engage in diverse forms of social outreach.
