Mission Statement

The primary goal of pACE is to reconstruct Arctic paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic conditions during the Paleocene-Eocene greenhouse episode and the subsequent transition to Eocene-to-modern icehouse conditions (~ 55-40 million years ago). The results of the pACE reconstruction will be applied to: the development of sedimentary facies and stratal stacking pattern models for the purpose of elucidating the distribution of Paleogene hydrocarbon source rocks, and the prediction of changing polar environments under anticipated future globally warm climate conditions. pACE members will achieve this goal by promoting international collaborative education and research initiatives that advance the current understanding of Paleogene Arctic geology.
