About us

The international Network in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies promotes and encourages collaborative research and teaching activity in the field of colonial and postcolonial studies between members of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN).

This network was established following the success of the ‘Colonial and Postcolonial Migrations’ conference, hosted by the Leeds Institute for Colonial and Postcolonial Studies (ICPS) in June 2006.

The network is characterised by a multi- and inter-disciplinary ethos, encompassing all disciplines from across the arts and humanities, including: History / English / Modern Languages and Cultures / African Studies and Afro-American Studies / Art History / Music / Theology and Religious Studies / Philosophy / Classics. Academics involved in the network have a wide range of interests; profiles of academics currently involved within the network can be found on the right hand side of this page.

The network is hosted by the WUN, an international alliance of leading higher-education institutions.

The network is currently led by the Leeds Institute for Colonial and Postcolonial Studies, part of the University of Leeds. Our British and international partners are currently the University of Bristol, the University of Utrecht, the University of Sydney, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We welcome new WUN universities to participate in this network.

Collaborative activities and resources supported by the network currently include: collaborative research and publications; collaborative research grant applications; research clusters; virtual seminars; web resources; graduate and staff exchanges; postgraduate networking.

The network’s website will act as a hub for each of these activities and resources. It will also report news relating to this network, and act as a central point of contact between academics and institutions belonging to the network.
