Located in the heart of the Netherlands Utrecht University is one of Europe’s leading research universities recognised internationally for its high-quality innovative approach to both research and teaching. Thanks to its solid basis in discipline-based scholarship, it is at the forefront of developments in interdisciplinary knowledge in fields ranging from biochemistry and biophysics to human rights and cultural studies.
The Graduate Gender Programme of Utrecht University directed by Prof. Dr. Rosemarie Buikema is the most central and largest Women’s and Gender Studies programme in the Netherlands. It has an excellent long standing national and international reputation for its pioneering work in the field of literary, cultural, philosophical and epistemological Women’s and Gender Studies. It offers one of Europe’s most advanced interdisciplinary teaching and research programmes in the humanities, with a core curriculum on feminist theory, issues of difference and diversity, gender, and multiculturalism.
At Ph.D. level, Utrecht University hosts the Netherlands Research School of Women’s Studies (NOV) which is a national platform for the research training activities of faculty members from different Dutch universities. The NOV is directed by Prof. Dr. Rosemarie Buikema.
The expertise of the GGeP researchers lies on the interface of literary studies, postcolonial studies, gender and ethnicity, and gender and diversity. The GGeP offers different options specifically designed for foreign postgraduate and Ph.D. students. First in Europe, the GGeP combines scholarly excellence, with intense training in Women’s and Gender Studies at postgraduate and Ph.D. level.
Furthermore GGeP has extensive experience in international EU projects and is currently involved in amongst others - FP6 Marie Curie EST Gendergraduates programme (coordinator), Socrates Thematic Network ATHENA (coordinator), FP6 Network of Excellence CliohRES (partner), FP6 STREP ADVANCE (partner), and Erasmus Mundus GEMMA (partner).

- BA minor in Women’s Studies (in English and Dutch, 30 ECTS)
- BA minor in Postcolonial Studies (30 ECTS)
- Master programme Comparative Women's Studies in Culture and Politics (12 months, 60 ECTS)
- Research Master Gender and Ethnicity (24 months, 120 ETCS)
- Erasmus Mundus Master in Women’s and Gender Studies (24 months, 120 ECTS)
- International PhD and Postgraduate Programme in Women’s and Gender Studies (up to 10 months)
