Objectives

The network has the following core objectives:

  • to bring together theoretical and applied approaches to the study of childhood and youth to inform policy and academic debates
  • to build international collaborations for the comparative study of childhood and youth in the context of global and local social policy domains
  • to break new theoretical ground through the study of social policy informed by the diverse experiences and perspectives of children and youth
  • to challenge existing methodological approaches to the study of childhood and youth through the crossing of disciplinary boundaries and epistemologies.

The network will also provide added value by promoting and supporting the following:

  • inter-disciplinary and cross-departmental collaboration on research and publications in the areas of childhood and youth studies, and research methodologies
  • opportunities for researchers to engage in dialogue with users of research (policy makers, and practitioners) ensuring that user needs are reflected in the work of the network
  • networks with local, regional and national communities
  • graduate student knowledge and learning in the areas of childhood and youth in social policy and research and evaluation methodologies.
